Carmen

Enchanted by the sensual and beautiful Carmen, Don José deserts his military duty and abandons everything he knows—just to be with her. But these two reckless lovers only cause each other pain. This tragedy of epic proportions includes some of opera’s most recognizable music, including the Toreador Song and the Habanera.

Glory Denied

Glory Denied

This poignant true story of America’s longest-held Prisoner of War (1964–73) depicts the saga of Vietnam Veteran Colonel James Thompson. After almost a decade in captivity dreaming of the life he left, he returns home to a world that’s left him behind. Kentucky Opera is proud to partner with veterans’ support groups throughout our region to amplify the stories of our brave service men and women, and their families, who have served and sacrificed for our country.

Figaro and Susanna are blissfully preparing for their wedding, but their world is turned upside down when Count Almaviva decides to assert his droit de seigneur. Neither is the Countess thrilled about her husband’s impending infidelity. True love and the power of friendship play out in this comedic plot to teach the Count a lesson he’ll never forget.

In its first year, Kentucky Opera’s Youth Opera Project presents a fresh take on the classic childhood tale. This classic story is performed by youth specifically for youth and their families. Faced with corruption from the tyrannical Sheriff, Robin follows the voice of his heart and leads a merry band of ordinary citizens to change their world.
