Running Time
1 hour
Pianist, author, and contemplative teacher Harry Pickens will present Soulprovisations™, an hour-long live piano experience designed for deep rest, on Sunday, November 1 at 3:00 PM at Old Forester’s Paristown Hall.
Participants settle into a comfortable seat or onto a yoga mat with pillow — lying down or sitting back — while Pickens improvises calming music at the acoustic piano, created in the moment for the people in the room. The music is never repeated and never recorded. Each session is a single, unrepeatable offering meant to relax the body, quiet the mind, awaken the heart, and soothe the soul.
Unlike sound baths built on bowls and gongs, Soulprovisations draws on the long tradition of contemplative keyboard music and on Pickens' five decades as an improvising pianist. No musical background or meditation experience is needed to fully enjoy the experience.
Pickens is the recipient of the Kentucky Governor's Award for the Arts in Education and the Fund for the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award, the subject of the Emmy-nominated KET documentary Harry Pickens in the Garden of Music, and the author of In Tune: Lessons in Life from a Life in Music.
Patrons need to bring their own yoga mat or blanket for the session. There will be limited seating available.
