Kentucky to the World’s Republic Bank Foundation Speaker Series returns to the stage on Monday, October 4th with a show stopping headliner: Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, author, UK alum, and current Simon & Schuster Senior Vice President Dana Canedy. The program will take place at the Kentucky Center Bomhard Theater at 6:30.

This is your chance to hear Dana when she returns home to Kentucky ahead of the release of “A Journal for Jordan.” The film, directed by Academy Award winner Denzel Washington, is based on Canedy’s New York Times best-selling memoir of the same name. The deeply personal story centers around a tragedy that is sadly familiar to many military families.

In 2005, Canedy’s fiancé, First Sergeant Charles Monroe King (played by Michael B. Jordan), began to write what would become a two-hundred-page journal for his son in case he did not make it home from the war in Iraq. He was killed by a roadside bomb on October 14, 2006. His son, Jordan, was seven months old. Jordan is now 15 and plans to be here with Dana for this program.

Inspired by his example, Dana was determined to preserve his memory for their son. “A Journal for Jordan” is a mother’s fiercely honest letter to her child about the parent he lost before he could even speak. It is also a father’s advice and prayers for the son he will never know.

Learn more about Dana’s career by checking out our first-ever digital program from this past winter and buy your tickets today to experience live with Kentucky to the World the true story behind what will assuredly become a blockbuster film.
